Dreamstar Lines, a privately-owned passenger railway company based in Newport Beach, California, is developing a premium overnight sleeper train service between San Francisco and Los Angeles that will combine the comfort of a luxury hotel with the efficiency of rail travel.

In partnership with the North American Passenger Rail Organization (NAPRO), Direx Solutions was engaged to develop, facilitate and deliver an invitation-only, foundational market sounding event for key stakeholders to explore operator interest, procurement options and access requirements.

Direx Solutions prepared a summary report from information gained throughout the event to guide Dreamstar Lines’ next steps and provide recommendations for an accelerated, pilot-route launch strategy. Expert insight was provided to emphasise the need for an effective operator model, a structured approach to procurement, compatibility with regulatory, host railway and labour considerations, as well as infrastructure readiness.

Dreamstar Lines is aiming to launch the new service ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics (LA28) to be held in Los Angeles.
